Dale Missen had a terrific 2011/2012 season riding 92 winners all up which was just short of his target of 100. The Justracing story today catches up with Dale and what he thinks of unbeaten Mackay trained galloper Assimilator.

Apprentice Rosie Myers was successful aboard Doomben Race 1 winner Bang On last Saturday for trainer Tony Gollan. Bang On defeated Miss Mia with the equal favourite Miss Bradbury in third place. Rosie may well have been excited - punters weren't - as the gelding paid $20.40 on Tattsbet.

Trainer Liam Birchley discusses the race win by Liesele with winning jockey Damian Browne after they had combined to win Race 2 on the programme at Doomben last Saturday. Liesele has now won her last three in a row, which is what I'd call "amazing", given she'd won just one of her previous dozen starts, so has she got better - or has the opposition got worse? Your call.

There has been a plethora of tight finishes in Brisbane racing over the last couple of weeks and last Saturday at Doomben was no exception. In Race 3 the eventual winner Danagaze ridden by apprentice Anthony Allen is in the red cap second from the outside, with second placegetter Revitalise on the extreme outside, in the yellow cap, bearing his molars to the breeze, as per the saying of retired racecaller Jack Styring. Third placegetter Playaction has the yellow cap. Out of picture, Margins ran a close fourth. The horse over on the fence is Noble Jester which ran fifth in the blanket finish.

Winning trainer Lawrie Mayfield-Smith waits at the winner's stall for his horse Danagaze to return to scale after winning Race 3 on the programme at Doomben last Saturday. The one time Ipswich Cup placegetter started at $11 with bookies.

Trainer of Doomben Race 4 winner - Solzhenitsyn - Rob Heathcote, was photographed by the Justracing camera with his wife Vicki. They were photographed talking with winning jockey Damian Browne after the win and all three looked dapper as they were all dressed in the winning colours.

Trainer of Doomben Race 5 winner Better Than Ready - Kelly Schweida - was captured by the Justracing camera discussing the race with winning jockey Ric McMahon last Saturday. Better Than Ready scrambled home at his odds-on quote of $1.85 with bookies, but paid slightly better at even money on Tattsbet.

Strapper Luke Pannell was clearly delighted after the win of his charge Better Than Ready at Doomben last Saturday. Luke is the brother of jockey Todd Pannell.

Trainer Marcus Wilson was photographed with his winning horse Attica and strapper Debbie Petersen after the Reset gelding had been successful in winning Race 6 on the Doomben programme last Saturday. Attica ran at $4.20 and got home narrowly from Patinack fruit-loop They Won't Last.

Winning connections of Doomben Race 7 winner Someday gather around to hear a full report on the race from winning jockey Chris Munce. The horse has never finished further back than second in his six start career, which is creditworthy on the part of trainer Kelso Wood. Good grief - we finally have a trainer who can get a horse to put two good runs together. Surely that's Hall of Fame stuff to punters.

Lyn Paton wasn't anywhere near Doomben last Saturday - but this is a file photo of her. She won the Goondiwindi Cup last Saturday and she also won a race at the Gold Coast in a top effort. A full report on the Goondiwindi Cup is up on www.sydneyracing.com.au website today. When she isn't training thoroughbreds, she drives pacers. What a multi-talented woman she is. This is a photo of her at the Toowoomba trots taken just before she drove another winner there. As you can see she was clearly thrilled to hurl herself in front of the Justracing camera. Most winners are.

Apprentice Kirk Matheson pushes I'm Cool to the line to win Race 8 at Doomben last Saturday. His colours say he's a star and he was on the day. I'm Cool started $2.45 but wasn't a bad result for fielders due to the "off the map" support for D'Jet which ran last after suffering from atrial fibrillation in the run.

Trainer of Doomben Race 8 winner I'm Cool, Desleigh Forster, gets the race low-down from winning apprentice Kirk Matheson, whilst in the background, managing owner Letitia Langbecker looks on. Letitia Langbecker is the daughter of former leading harness racing trainer/driver Kevin Thomas - and Kevin and his wife Pauline for many years have owned and operated Washpool Lodge at Aratula on the Cunningham Highway, between Ipswich and Warwick. In fact the affable couple were inaugural Justracing clients about 14 or 15 years back.
As you can see in this picture, Kirk has had a fall after the line and been hit at full speed by another runner - but he's okay.

Recent Media Award winners at this year's Racing Queensland presentation night were Radio Station Nova 106. This photo was taken of Nova 106 stars, Kip and Luttsy who hosted the BRC TV presentation on Exhibition race day. Photographed with them is all round good guy and BRC TV cameraman Joe Zoppi. As you can see - Joe is clearly a rose among two thorns.

Rockhampton apprentice Carly-Mae Pye rode Ten Seconds in Race 7 at Doomben last Saturday. Unfortunately there wasn't a good result for Carly-Mae as Ten Seconds officially finished 10th of 15. However later that night at the Racing Queensland Awards night she was named Queensland Country Apprentice of the Year, so that obviously put her back on cloud 9. Can someone please show me where the first eight clouds are?

This is a photo from last Saturday evening that quick thinking former Toowoomba based jockey Nori Yamada took. Seems all the Toowoomba jockeys got to ride in Race 10 at Sha Tin. Do Sky have a clue?
