EAGLE FARM AND MURWILLUMBAH PHOTOS......Part 2

By Phil Purser
27/06/2012
Eagle Farm/Murwillumbah photos Dan Costello

The Glen Colless fan club just grew by one last Sunday at Murwillumbah when this little tacker got up close and personal with the top hoop. By the look on that child's face he wants Glen's skullcap -and he's just working out how he can get it.

Is the little bloke:

a) Glen's youngest son, whom he called the rather unflattering name of Derek Bevan Colless.

b) Former Melbourne Chief Steward Des Gleeson's grandson Jackie (get it Jackie Gleeson) - hence the hat.

c) An escapee from the local kindergarten.

d) Dan Costello's oldest son, that his wife doesn't know about - Horatio George Costello.

e) trainer Matt Dunn's son - William Arthur George Phillip Dunn.

f) none of the above

THE ANSWER IS IN THE LAST PICTURE

And this was Glen Colless returning to scale on one of his two winners on the day - Race 4 winner Spring Rose which started at 5/2. Glen rode a double for local trainer Matt Dunn. The pair combined eight days earlier to win the big 2YO race on Ipswich Cup day with Caldetes, so the pair are flying at present.

Visiting Sydney trainer Chris Waller discusses the win of Firebolt with winning jockey Hugh Bowman after the pair had won with the $2.60 favourite at Eagle Farm last Saturday. As you can see, the pair were thrilled to pieces to see Firebolt win his first race in over 12 months.

Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman then backed up in Race 6 at Eagle Farm last Saturday to score a race-to-race double when winning the Tattersall's Cup on Ginga Dude. The horse had run unplaced seven days earlier in the Ipswich Cup. Ginga Dude bowed to the Justracing camera in a nice twist.

Visiting trainer Graeme Boyd was photographed by the Justracing camera at Eagle Farm last Saturday with his charge Ginga Dude who had just been successful in winning the Tattersall's Cup, which was Race 6 on the programme. The horse may back up next Saturday in the Caloundra Cup - or he may spell - which is sort of having a bit each way. We'll have to wait until Caloundra Cup acceptances to see what direction the trainer heads. If I owned him he'd already be in the paddock pushing out zeds.

Patinack jockey Jeff Lloyd was photographed returning to scale on Pear Tart after they had just won the Tattersall's Tiara at Eagle Farm last Saturday. Will Jeff Lloyd accompany the galloper to Melbourne for the Myer Classic - or will they put a local jockey on down there? Jeff Lloyd took the flowers home to his bride and she thought he'd fallen in love with her all over again.

The Patinack combination of John Thompson (on left) and Brett Killion (on right) were captured by the Justracing camera with an unidentified male at the presentation after the win of Pear Tart in Race 7 at Eagle Farm last Saturday. Could the "unidentified male" be the bloke that has fled the Gai Waterhouse stable to now be with Thompson? Did you know that? Stick with me and we'll learn together. "He's a good man around a horse" a very reliable source told me. Pear Tart hasn't been beaten since he started at Patinack. Coincidence - or good judgement?

Clerk of the Course Rickie Leisfield leads Tim Bell and River Lad back to the enclosure after their win in the Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm last Saturday. As you can see River Lad is knackered and he has dozed off. Wake up Dopey. River Lad might back-up in the Glasshouse this weekend at Caloundra. Again like Ginga Dude, we'll just have to wait until acceptances.

Whilst down at Murwillumbah on Sunday former top Northern Rivers jockey "Mozzie" Coleman was Clerk of the Course and he was photographed leading out Peter Graham at the start of the day. Peter is presently leading the jockey championship for the Northern Rivers with Terry Treichel.

Redhead jockey Matthew Bennett was photographed as he returned to scale aboard Getyourown after the pair had combined to win the Murwillumbah Newmarket last Sunday. Getyourown started at 5/1 and is trained by Paddy Cunningham - father of former Caloundra based jockey Kylie Cunningham.

And yet again here is Matthew Bennett on his big day out last Sunday winning the Murwillumbah Cup aboard Castlemagne King. Starting at 6/1 Castlemagne King is trained by Basil Ryan and the galloper scored by half a length from fellow 6/1 chance Rhetoric. Wanna meet Basil? Hang on then. Hey Basil.

There we are - Coffs Harbour trainer Basil Ryan was photographed after the win of his horse Castlemagne King in the Murwillumbah Cup last Sunday. The King Charlemagne gelding has now won eight races and $96,780 in prizemoney. He'd won two starts earlier at Grafton.

Hollie Julius has appeared on this website previously when engaged in her strapping duties for trainer Matthew Dunn. However Matthew was kind enough to give Hollie the day off last Sunday for the big local day of racing and she decided to take the opportunity to look a little more glamorous and dress up in something other than her strapping attire. The other young lady has decided to give photographer Dan Costello a wink and a nod - so that he includes her in the photo. Well done Dan. Still a chic magnet after all these years hey? Know the feeling.

Hugh Bowman heads out onto the track on Saturday Morning Mail "best bet of the day" Firebolt. They combined to win Race 5 on the programme at Eagle Farm last Saturday, but were probably lucky to scramble in, as Jetset Lad looked most unlucky.

Regular attendee at Northern Rivers tracks - jockey Matthew Bennett had a big day out at Murwillumbah last Sunday when he was successful in taking out both feature races on the day. This is a headshot of Matthew - seeing you couldn't see his melon in the other two photos.

AND THE ANSWER TO THE CHILD WITH GLEN COLLESS IS THAT THE CHILD WAS AN ESCAPEE FROM THE LOCAL KINDERGARTEN WHO STOLE A CAB AND FLED TO THE MURWILLUMBAH RACES. HE'D BASHED UP ONE OF HIS MATES AND STOLEN HIS MONEY BOX, USING THE ILL GOTTEN GAIN TO PUNT WITH FOR THE ARVO. HE LOST ALL THE DOUGH THOUGH AS HE DIDN'T BACK A WINNER ALL ARVO. HE WAS IN THE EAR OF GLEN COLLESS TRYING TO GET A FREE TIP, BUT GLEN TOLD HIM TO "NICK OFF KID, I DON'T TIP HORSES. OTHER JOCKEYS HAVE DONE THAT AND BEEN RUBBED OUT".

NO HE'S NOT - ONLY TRICKING - I FANCY HE'S THE SON OF A PART OWNER.
