The Melbourne meeting tomorrow is at Flemington and that track has certainly copped some flak from all quarters in the media in recent times. And that “flak from all quarters” is all good, as we need fair tracks – and accurate track ratings – for all parties, particularly punters, to keep faith in the industry.
Eight races are set down for decision tomorrow at Flemington with the first at 12.20pm and the last at 4.30pm.
There are no black type races on at Flemington tomorrow and all eight races are worth the standard $70,000 total Saturday metropolitan prizemoney per race.
The race I’ve chosen to preview for readers tonight is Race 6 - which is an Open Handicap over 1600 metres.
My thoughts on the race are:

COMMENT
PHILDA
Just one win in the last 12 months – and that was in a photo finish, so hardly.
LORD PYRUS
Hasn’t won a race since way back on 12/2/11 and struggles to win with this weight.
ERASET
Won just one of 11 starts here and is a short priced favourite. Racing consistently of late but the facts and realities are that he’s won just one race since 24/10/10, meaning he doesn’t win too often.

SANDHILL PRINCE
Better suited in Adelaide.
SISTER NORMA
Second up here after 34 weeks off and she won when second up last time. Place hope.

OUR PRIDE AND JOY
What a positive name – but I can’t ever catch her.
LUVBITE
Will get bruised and battered here.
MOULIN BLEU
Scratched.
LADRAMAHS
Placed four of last five starts, so has a place chance here.
EVEN ADAM
Bred to be a duck and needs plenty of rain to fall to be in the finish.
GOTTINO
His last two Flemington runs behind Playwright and Mr O’Ceirin have been okay. Drops 6 kgs on last start third in an ordinary race at Ballarat on 3/6/12. Has definite each way claim.
JAVA JACK
Last win was over a year ago (18/5/11), so no.
CONCLUSION: I’d back Gottino each way.
