GOLD COAST PHOTOS FROM LAST SATURDAY PLUS A FEW RING-IN'S....Part 2

By Phil Purser

All Gold Coast photos Dan Costello - rest Phil Purser

Jockey Terry Treichel looks up to the heavens to see if he can beat the next storm, as he comes back to scale aboard Race 7 winner Warrior Within who is trained by Bruce Hill. What great colours they are.

Gee if you add these two blokes ages up, I guarantee you you wouldn't get any number under 100. This is trainer Bob Sutton and jockey Don Barron as they passed by each other after the running of Race 4 at the Gold Coast last Saturday, which Don Barron had won aboard Aunt Rock.

Following Race 1 at the Gold Coast, trainer Bryan Guy and jockey Matthew Palmer discussed the win by the Lucky Owners mare Luckily, which ran the $4.60 equal third favourite. It was the mares first race victory.

Brave Queen and jockey Justin Stanley were photographed along with the filly's strapper and owner, Mr W Mansour, who was clearly delighted by the $16 shots victory.

Back up at Caloundra and this is a photograph of the impressive stable complex known as McLachlan Place, which was established by the late Bruce McLachlan, but is now where Bruce's son Jason trains out of.

There was plenty of flooding around Ipswich and surrounds last week, and I took this photo of flooding near Rosewood, just outside of Ipswich. The flooding happened so quickly that the school children got sent home just after lunch - which no doubt was very deflating for the young people - I don't think!

Whilst travelling around the flood waters of Ipswich last week, I photographed Mt Walker shrouded in a veil (what happend to the "i" before "e" except after "c" in this word) of fog and rain - and it looked nothing like it normally does. Let me show you a photo of how it normally looks.

This is what Mt Walker normally looks like on a clear and fine day. Mt Walker is famous in the history of the Ipswich area, as a bushranger by the name of Walker, who the mountain is obviously named after, used to live at the top of the mountain - and from his vantage point he could pick off Cobb & Co coaches at random, as he'd see them coming from so far away.

Whilst we were at Caloundra last week, my wife Denise photographed these two ships that were about to collide. Unfortunately, with all the flooding around South East Queensland, the ships crashing into each other didn't make the news.

Following the win of Asyoucando in Race 6 at the Gold Coast last Saturday, Dan Costello captured this happy snap. The horse races in the name of John Thompson as trainer, but the wife of Patinack's recently appointed Queensland foreman Toby Edmonds, is a part-owner. Toby advised that this is one of the few gallopers he bought with him from his previous stable at Warwick Farm.

Leading Gold Coast rider Dan Griffin, in the bright colours of winning trainer John Morrisey, stood out in the gloom and doom as he returned aboard Eastline following that galloper's victory in the final race on the programme, as the even money favourite.

The big wind that brought the rains to South East Queensland, gave these kite surfers at Caloundra an opportunity to strut their stuff - as a huge tanker passed behind them.

I photographed this house near Mt Walker last week. Wouldn't Real Estate agents be able to have a ball advertising this, with statements like "flora and fauna abound" as God knows what serpents would live in it.
