This is another exclusive file photo, this time of Gold Coast trainer Maryann Thexton and her son Tom. Maryann trains each way website tip Showciti in Race 1 tomorrow at Doomben. Wonder will young Tom be there? You can bet he'll be dressed up and looking dapper if he is.
Eight races are set down for decision today at Doomben.
The first race gets underway at 12.28pm local time with the last set to exit the barriers at 4.50pm.
The best two races at the meeting, from a class perspective, are clearly Races 1 and 6, as both are Open company events, with Race 1 being run over 2200 metres whilst Race 6 is a 1350-metre event.
Both races have only attracted a limited number of acceptors, with just eight set to do battle in the 2200-metre race (Race 1) and nine to go around in the 1350-metre event (Race 6). Given that $50,000 in prizemoney is up for grabs, in each event, I would think the club would be entitled to be quite disappointed with the response from owners and trainers for those two races, as the club had no problem attracting big acceptances for lesser class races - like the Maiden and the no metropolitan win.
The track will be “good” following a succession of hot days in Brisbane – and those hot days no doubt contributed to a track record being broken across the road at Eagle Farm last Saturday, when Azzaland broke the 1000-metre track record.
My thoughts on the race are:

HORSE
COMMENT
HUMMA
Went like a mule the other day to my way of thinking, yet jockey Cassidy got off the horse and told stewards the horse “finished the race of fairly,” so I must have been watching the wrong replay. Cassidy rides Under the Counter here and a three-kilo apprentice rides Humma.

HONOUR HAPPY LIST
Won easily last start and if his trainer knows what he’s doing the horse would have to be hard to beat here.
YIELD CURVE
Battled on well last start and is a chance if he can reproduce that run.
KENTISH ROSE
Led the other day in the race when stablemate Humma was favourite, but struggles to win at the trip.
UNCLE JAN
Did nought last start, so hard to have.
SHOWCITI
Has been racing consistently, but can’t win a race, however he deserves to, as his last run was good.
UNDER THE COUNTER
Did nothing behind Hidden Wonder at the Gold Coast on Magic Millions day, but his previous runs were okay. Take on trust in this harder grade.
SLEPNER
Is eligible for a Class 2 at Dingo, so not here.
CONCLUSION: Back Showciti each way.
